Douglas Police Department

Welcome to the Douglas Police Department
Employee Assistance Program

The Douglas Police Department has established a special program to assist employees. This is an additional benefit that provides confidential access to mental health professionals who have experience with and a special interest in working with first responders.

Everyday stressors, as well as some of the unique stressors and difficulties involved in public safety work, can affect our lives and have a real impact on our well-being. We want to help provide resources so that staff members quickly, conveniently, and in complete privacy, get in touch with a qualified provider who stands ready to assist with any emotional or psychological issue.

The Employee Assistance Program provides access to a network of specially selected mental health professionals practicing in Wyoming who have experience in assisting public employees.

Between July 1st and June 30th of each year, Douglas Police Department employees will be provided with up to three hours of services each, at no cost.

To access services, simply select a provider and email or call them directly. You do not need a referral from anyone else, and you may remain anonymous if you wish. If you prefer to see your provider for longer than three meetings, you may use your health insurance program to continue services.

FAQs

Why use the EAP?

The EAP network consists of counselors who are experienced with first responders and/or trauma survivors who stand ready to assist DPD employees in identifying issues and planning care. EAP providers are located all across Wyoming and many conduct telehealth appointments if preffered.

What if I want to attend more than three sessions?

The three sessions provided by the program are meant to support planning services. Your personal health insurance may be used for more sessions.

Why doesn’t the EAP provide as many sessions as I want or need?

This is a wellness program. Your City health insurance is your primary resource for medical and mental health care. The EAP is meant to make it easier to connect with suitable providers and to access care.

How do referrals work?

You may self-refer by contacting one of our providers directly by email or telephone to schedule an appointment. You should expect a response within 24 hours. Dr. Post’s office can assist in making a referral if one is wanted and can be reached at admin@postwyo.com.

How do I know that my sessions will be private?

EAP network providers are private practitioners who enter into a client-therapist relationship with those who are referred or who self-refer. They are required by law and ethical standards to honor confidentiality, subject to legal exceptions they will describe. They cannot reveal the content of sessions to anyone without the written consent of their client. Your case will not be discussed with anyone associated with the Douglas Police Department or Dr. Post without your specific consent.

Who administers the Douglas Police Department’s EAP?

Psychologist Jerry Post, Psy.D., of Cheyenne administers the EAP. His practice hosts the web page and manages the network of providers.
